Conservation Beyond Borders utilizes mathematical theorems to quantify trade-offs in complex social and environmental issues. We provide operational methods that promote informed and data-based strategies. We work across geography, culture, emerging market sectors, and political boundaries, integrating scientific research, socio-economics, technology, and insights into human behavior to design approaches that help eliminate poaching, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and build vibrant communities. The results provide local, regional, national, and international decision makers with actionable procedural frameworks and practical tools for informed decision making and that ensure a balance of ecological, social, and financial sustainability.

Our impact

We deter poaching rates creating wildlife-driven sustainable livelihoods. As such, wildlife becomes more valuable alive than dead . We additionally conduct workshops designed to educate people about the health hazards associated with illegal wildlife handling, to introduce people to various alternative-livelihoods, and to offer alternative behaviors to dealing with problematic animals worldwide. A species-specific example is the rhino; we remove the poaching incentive itself by safely dehorning rhinos and monitoring their location via satellite and GPS systems.

Why Wildlife Conservation?

We live in a world in which a rhino horn is worth more than gold or cocaine on the black market for illegal wildlife trade in endangered species body parts, and rural communities kill elephants, leopards, and tigers in order to preserve their economic income from agricultural fields. With more than 250 million people living in rural communities situated within and adjunct to forests and nature reserves, human-wildlife coexistence is threaten on a daily basis. As a result, wildlife populations are being decimated by poachers and the Human-Wildlife conflict.

The Challenge

International, national, regional, and individual decision-makers are faced with a dilemma: On the one hand, they are tasked with the need to facilitate, manage, and protect wildlife populations and ecosystems for economic profitability and/or preservation of intrinsic values. On the other hand, they are constraint by scarce resources and limited data.

Our Approach

We weigh stakeholders’ objectives with biodiversity needs. Our working framework integrates biological requirements, local capacity-building, human-wildlife issues, market-based trade-offs, environmental economics, and best wildlife management practices, with conservation implications.
